The University of Hyderabad (Hydarāvād visvavidyālayamu) is in Hyderabad, Telangana and is a public research university based in India. Established in 1974, this mostly residential campus serves more than 5,000 students and a number of subjects. The Governor of Telangana State is the Chief Ex-Officio Officer of the University, while the President of India is the Visitor of the University. The university was established in 1973 and was modeled on the six-point formula. From 1974 to 1979, the first vice-chancellor of the university was the organic chemist Gurbaksh Singh of Banaras Hindu University. In January 2015, the University of Hyderabad was declared the best central university in India and the university was also honored by the President. The university is located in Gachibowli on 2300 acres. The complex is rich in flora and fauna, more than 734 flowering plants, ten species of mammals, fifteen species of reptiles, and 220 species of birds. The University is recognized as an Eminence Institute (IOE) [5] of the University Grants Commission (UGC) through the UGC (Declaration as an Institution of Government Institutions) Guidelines, 2017 for Public Institutions .
