Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a financial inclusion program of the Government of India that is open to Indian citizens. (minors 10 years and above also have an account with a parent to manage it ), It aims to expand affordable access to financial services such as bank accounts, remittances, loans, insurance and pensions. The Financial Inclusion Campaign was launched on 28 August 2014 by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. On 15 August 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the plan in his first Independence Day speech. Under the scheme, 15 million bank accounts were opened on opening day, operated by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance. The Guinness Book of World Records, recognizing this achievement, said that most bank accounts opened in a week are 23 to 29 accounts which is very good for the Government of India.
