National Elimination Program India

The National Elimination Program India (NTEP) is a public health initiative of the Government of India that organizes its anti-tuberculosis efforts. It serves as the head of the National Health Mission (NHM) and provides technical and managerial leadership for anti-tuberculosis activities in the country. According to the National Strategic Plan 2012-17, the program serves to create a “TB-free India” and aims to provide universal access to TB control services. The program provides various free, quality treatment services nationwide through the government health system. The program is managed through a four-tier hierarchy from the national level to the sub-district (tuberculosis unit) level. At the country level, the program works under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare by the Central TB Board. The state TB cell and district TB offices control the activities of the program at the state and district levels respectively. The scheme is organized under the Activities (TB Unit) at every sub-district / block level. The Health Central TB Division is a deputy director general – TBG and manager of the national program. The program falls under the Secretary and Director General of Administrative Command (NTEP and NACO) and Joint Secretary-TB. Under the Central TB Department, there are expert committees at the national level and national institutions advise and assist in various program programs. The department administers the program at the state level, a state TB officer and a district TB officer at the district level.
