The External Affairs Minister is the head of the Ministry of External Affairs Headquartered in New Delhi. The most senior office of the Union Cabinet is in New Delhi and the main responsibility of the External Affairs Minister is to represent the international community to the foreign government. The Foreign Minister also plays an important role in the determination of foreign policy. India’s first Prime Minister was Jawaharlal Nehru, and also held the post of Foreign Minister of the country for 17 years. He remained the country’s longest-serving foreign minister.
