Delhi Technological University (DTU) is located in Delhi, which is known as Delhi College of Engineering (DCE). It was established in 1941 as Delhi Polytechnic. In 1952, it started awarding degrees after affiliated to Delhi University. This institute was established in 1963 under the Government of Delhi. This institute was given the status of university in 2009, thus the name of Delhi Technological University was changed. The Delhi Polytechnic was seen as following the 1938 Wood and Abbott Committee.
It was established in 1941 as Delhi Polytechnic. The technical school was built to meet the demands of Indian industries. Walter William Wood became the founding principal of Delhi Polytechnic. It became the first engineering college in Delhi and was one of the few engineering institutes in India established before independence.
The National Diploma awarded by Delhi Polytechnic was considered equivalent to a B.E. Degree by erstwhile UPSC. The college was affiliated to Delhi University in 1952 and started formal degree level programs. The college was under the direct control of the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1962.
It later became a college in the Union Territory of Delhi. In 1963, the Department of Arts became a College of Arts and the Department of Commerce and Business Administration was transformed into several institutions of commerce and secretarial practices. The fragmentation of Delhi Polytechnic eventually overtook an engineering institute. In 1962, the college was affiliated to the University of Delhi.
