Computer Networks :- A network is established by connecting more than two computers and other auxiliary hardware devices through communication channels called a computer network. It enables one computer to communicate with another computer and share commands, data etc. including hardware and software resources.

Local Area Network (LAN) :-

It is a network that is a local area network is a computer network that operates in a small area, i.e. it connects computers within a small office such as a company, school, or any other organization. So, it exists within a specific region, e.g. Home network, office network, school network, etc. Devices in a LAN are typically connected using an Ethernet cable, which provides an interface for connecting multiple devices such as routers, switches, and computers. For example, using a single router, some Ethernet cables and a computer, you can create a LAN in your home, office, etc. In this network, a computer can act as a server and other computers, which are part of the network.

Benefits of LAN :-

• It provides higher operating speeds than WAN and MAN.
• It is less expensive and easier to install and maintain.
• It may be wired or wireless.
• It is more secure than other networks because it is a small one that can be easily taken care of.

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) :-

MAN is a high-speed network that spans a large geographic area such as Metro City or Town. It is established by connecting local area networks using routers and local telephone exchange lines. It can be operated by a private company, or it is serviced by a local telephone company. MAN is ideal for relatively large area people who want to share data or information. Commonly used protocols for MAN include X.25, Frame Relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line), ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), and more. Huh. Its network ranges from 5 to 50 km. An organization can use MAN to connect all of its LANs located in its various offices across the city.

Wide Area Network (WAN) :-

The WAN is spread over a large area. It is not limited to an office, school, city or town and is primarily established by telephone lines, fiber optic or satellite links. It is mostly used by large organizations such as banks and multinational companies to communicate with their branches and customers around the world. Although it is structurally similar to MAN, it differs from MAN in terms of its range, eg, MAN spans 50 km, while WAM covers a distance of 50 km, eg, 1000 km or more. They are designed to connect small networks such as LANs and MANs to form large networks.

Advantages of a WAN :-

Large Network Range :- It spreads over a large geographical area of more than 2000 kilometers, for example, from one country to another.
Centralized data :- This allows your various office branches to use their head office servers to receive and share data. Thus, you do not need to buy any server like email server, file server and back up server.
High Bandwidth :- It provides higher bandwidth than a normal broadband connection. Thus, it can increase your company’s productivity by offering seamless data transfer and communication.
Get up-to-date files and data :- It provides an ideal platform for companies that need a live server for their employees to exchange updated files within seconds.
Workload Distribution :- It helps to distribute your workload to other locations. You can place your employees in different countries and make it easier for them to work from your office.
