Bharathiar University is located in Coimbatore state Tamil Nadu, India. The university was founded in February 1982 and named after the Tamil poet Subramanian Bharati And in 1985 this university was recognized by the Grants Commission (UGC). The University is in the foothills of Marudamalai Road, Coimbatore and has jurisdiction over the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and Nilgiri. The Postgraduate Center of Madras University, which was functioning in Coimbatore before 1982, then later formed the core of Bharathiar University. In May 1985, the University received recognition from the University Grants Commission New Delhi for the purpose of grant. The university is named after the great poet Subramanian Bharati. President of India a. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi were the chief guests.
